Across this term, Year 9 students have participated in the Take Love 'Virtual Visit' program, in conjunction with residents at the Anglicare St Luke's Retirement Village in Dapto.
Mr Leigh Roberts, the chaplain at St Luke's Village, coordinated the program with us, where nine of the village's residents met with our students for 30 minutes during their lunchtime on Thursdays.
This took place across four weeks towards the start of the term, where the students and residents would chat to each other via Zoom.
In the fifth week, our students hosted the residents at Calderwood Christian School, for an in-person lunch in the Learning Hub.
We shared soup, focaccia bread, cakes, tea, and coffee with the residents. Our students served, blessed them with a small gift, and shared their musical talents with them.
The students enjoyed the experience and learned invaluable lessons from their catch-ups with the residents.
It was wonderful to see how the Virtual Visits and in-person lunch blessed both our students and the St Luke's residents. They have certainly brought delight and joy to each other.
We’re a growing school for a new and growing community.
We run regular tours and open days for parents and students to have a taste of life at Calderwood. We’d love to welcome you to one of them soon!
