Connecting @ Calderwood: A Community Marked by Love
Connecting @ Calderwood: A Community Marked by Love
One of the most distinctive things about Calderwood isn’t something you’ll find on a timetable or in a classroom—it’s something you experience. It’s in the conversations at pick-up, the way families welcome one another, and the genuine care shown across our community.
In John 13:35, Jesus speaks about how His followers would be recognised: not by status, achievement, or even words—but by love. That kind of love is simple, visible, and deeply relational. It is expressed in everyday moments, in how we treat one another, and in whether people feel known when they are among us.
This is what we want Calderwood to be known for.
As our school grows, there is always a risk that connection becomes harder and people feel less visible. That’s why we continue to place such a strong emphasis on building relationships. The “small school feel” that many families value is not really about size—it’s about whether people feel seen, welcomed, and part of something meaningful. It’s about whether, in a busy week, someone takes the time to say hello, to listen, or to include others.
That kind of culture doesn’t just happen. It is built, step by step, through everyday choices.
For some families, that might mean being highly involved—volunteering, attending events, or contributing regularly to school life. For others, it may be as simple as lingering a little longer after school, introducing yourself to someone new, or showing up occasionally to connect. Both matter. Love is not measured by how much you do, but by the spirit in which you do it.
We are grateful that there are structured opportunities that make connection easier. In the coming weeks, there are several invitations worth considering:
P&F Meeting – Monday 1 June
These gatherings are one of the simplest ways to step into the life of the community. More than agendas and planning, they are about partnership—families coming together to support the culture and experience of the school.
Calderwood Business Network Breakfast – Thursday 18 June
For those in business or leadership spaces, this is a meaningful opportunity to connect, be encouraged, and build relationships that extend beyond the school gates.
Prep Parent Network – Tuesday 18 August
Particularly for newer families, this is a space where early connections are formed—connections that often shape a family’s entire experience of school life.
Yet it’s important to say that connection at Calderwood is not confined to organised events. Some of the most significant moments are unplanned; conversations on the sidelines, shared stories between parents, or the quiet support offered during a challenging season. These are the moments where community becomes real.
In many ways, this is where the words of Jesus become visible among us. When families experience genuine care, when people feel known rather than overlooked, when kindness is extended without expectation—these are the things that set a community apart. Not dramatically, but consistently.
So the encouragement is simple: take a step towards connection. Come along to something. Stay a little longer. Introduce yourself. Be intentional about noticing others.
Because when love is lived out in these small, everyday ways, something powerful happens. Our community becomes more than a school—it becomes a place of belonging.
And that is what will continue to shape Calderwood into the kind of community we believe God is calling us to be.

Commemorating ANZAC Day at Calderwood
Our school community gathered in gratitude and respect to commemorate ANZAC Day at the beginning of Term, as our student leaders and families honoured those who served through both our in‑school assembly and the Shellharbour City Council service.
Shellharbour City Council ANZAC Commemoration Service
Our school Captains, as well as Calderwood families and friends attended the Shellharbour City Council ANZAC Day Commemoration Service, where our Secondary Captains laid a wreath on behalf of our school.
2026 Calderwood ANZAC Service
This followed our in‑school ANZAC Assembly on Friday, April 24, where our K–12 community heard a message from Cavalry Officer, Captain Toby Crowthers.
Together, all students took part in the Act of Remembrance – the Ode, the Last Post, a period of silence, the laying of wreaths and the Rouse – honouring those who served with gratitude and respect.

Celebrating Mother's Day
Celebrating Mother's Day
Our 2026 Mother's Day Celebration on Friday, May 8 was a wonderful celebration, with over 300 mums and special friends joining us at Calderwood for the event.
Our Stage 1 students confidently led a heartfelt assembly, followed by a beautiful performance from our Junior School Choir. We also enjoyed a lively performance from our Staff Band, alongside meaningful key-word signing from our Stage 2 students.
Each guest received a handmade bookmark, sharing the reminder that “they are God’s workmanship” (Ephesians 2:10).

We were also delighted to officially launch the CCS Dance Club, with many guests joining in to dance too!
We closed our time together with 'Lunch on the Lawn', under blue, sunny skies on our lovely grounds.
A truly joy-filled celebration!

A new face in our Business Centre: Welcome Mrs Emelyn Hall
A new face in our Business Centre: Welcome Mrs Emelyn Hall
We’re pleased to share that Mrs Emelyn Hall has recently taken on a newly created role within our Business Centre, bringing together both Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable. This merged position helps streamline our processes and ensures a more consistent, responsive experience for families.
While most school fees are managed through Edstart, Emelyn will be the friendly voice many parents connect with if they have questions about fees or need assistance with one-off invoices. Her approachable manner and growing familiarity with our systems make her a helpful point of contact for any queries.
Of her new role, she said:
"I am excited to ensure that families have a good experience with fees, especially for those who find it hard to understand or are in a tough situation.
"I also look forward to keeping our systems efficient and user-friendly to help save everyone time in our busy lives; for families, staff and suppliers."
Emelyn has worked at ICS since late 2022, starting in administration, and has occupied a part-time role in the Business Centre for the past two years. She can be contacted in the Business Centre via (02) 4230 3777 , and will be available on-site at Calderwood every Tuesday.
Please join us in congratulating Emelyn on her new role – we’re grateful for the care and professionalism she brings in supporting our school community.
