"Just One Thing" in 2026
"Just One Thing" in 2026
On
Monday, February 2
, we enjoyed a wonderful gathering at our first Parents and Friends (P&F) meeting for 2027. Although small in number, the meeting was rich with conversation, laughter, and fellowship as we shared our hopes for the year ahead. We spoke about the strength of parent partnership and our desire for every family to feel meaningfully
Connected @ Calderwood
.
We are truly blessed to belong to a school community that values parent involvement. If this is your first experience of Christian education—or if you simply haven’t had the opportunity to be involved before—may I encourage you to consider doing “
just one thing
” this year. It doesn’t need to be much. In fact, even an hour of your time can make a significant difference to the life of our community and to the experience of your children.
You may like to choose your “ one thing ” from one of our key events or opportunities:
- Outdoor Movie Night – Saturday, 2 May
- Calderwood Fair – Saturday, 19 September
- Business Network Breakfasts
- Parents & Friends meetings
Or perhaps you might choose to assist with the second-hand uniform shop , which requires only a small weekly commitment and has a big impact.
If you haven’t already, please join the Parents and Friends Facebook Group to stay informed about upcoming events and opportunities to help.
Your involvement – large or small – helps build a welcoming, connected community for all our families.
Annual General Meeting – Monday, March 9
Our next P&F meeting will be our Annual General Meeting (AGM) . During this meeting, we will elect our P&F Executive: President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Please don’t let the AGM discourage you from attending; the formal component is brief, and we will then move into a time of hearing my report and planning for the year ahead.
If you feel called to serve on our Executive Team, please complete the nomination form available via the provided link.
Note: all position holders must be
Association Members
or actively working toward membership.
Outdoor Movie Night – Saturday, May 2
Our Calderwood Movie Night has become a highlight on the school calendar. We transform the grounds into a large outdoor theatre and enjoy a wonderful evening under the stars.
If you are able to help with planning or assisting on the night, this could be your “ one thing ”. Whether you help or simply attend, we look forward to seeing our community come together for this special event.
Uniform Shop Assistance
Our second-hand uniform shop has received a welcome amount of stock to begin the year. Helping in the shop is a small but valuable way to contribute. Traditionally, the shop opens for 1–2 hours per week , and with a few helpers, the commitment is very manageable.
Calderwood Fair – Saturday, September 19
Planning for this year’s
Calderwood Fair
is already underway. As always, we will need many helpers in the lead-up and on the day. Every family can play a part simply by taking a
30–60 minute shift
at their child’s class stall.
We are also seeking
stall coordinators
, who help prepare the roster and organise the simple items needed for the stall. Your support ensures that the Fair remains joyful, smooth-running, and community‑building.
Thank you in advance for considering how you might contribute this year. Your involvement helps shape a school community that is warm, connected, and welcoming for all. When it comes to serving, even the smallest contribution makes a meaningful difference.
In Christ's Service,
Darren Hutton

Introducing our new Junior School Leadership Team
In 2026, we are moving to a refreshed leadership model in the Junior School this is in line with the growth of Calderwood and underpinned by a desire to ensure that we remain distinctly Christian and can look after and care for the ‘whole child’ – spiritually, academically, pastorally and socially.
I'm thankful to God for his provision of:
- Mrs Cara O’Neill – K-2 Coordinator
- Mr Kyle Jacobs – 3-6 Coordinator

Celebrating our second Imago Day
Celebrating our second Imago Day
During Week 3, our students and staff celebrated the second edition of Imago Day, a school-wide celebration that we are made in the image of God.
As a part of the day, students from Kindergarten to Year 12 contributed to a group art installation in the Hall – a giant vine tree – with each student contributing by placing a decorated leaf on the artwork.
Each leaf was decorated with a personal reflection on how students reflect God's image, with the artwork reflecting the idea in John 15:5 that God is the true vine, and that we grow and reflect him best when we are connected.
The day concluded with K-12 students gathering in the hall to view the final artwork, as Mr Hutton concluded the day with a short reflection and prayer for our school community.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."
– John 15:5
