Called to Lead
Called to Lead
A few weeks ago, we gathered as a school community to dedicate our new leaders—a significant moment in the life of Calderwood Christian School. This is what I shared with the new leaders and our secondary students on that day.
It’s the story of Joseph, the 11th son of Jacob. Betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, and taken to a foreign land, Joseph endured years of hardship. Just when life seemed to improve, he was falsely accused and thrown into prison. Yet even in the darkest places, Joseph remained steadfast, trusting God and holding firm to his values.
Eventually, Joseph’s God-given gift of interpreting dreams brought him before Pharaoh. His wisdom and discernment so impressed the king that Joseph was appointed second-in-command over all Egypt. From prisoner to prime minister, Joseph’s journey is a powerful testimony to God’s faithfulness—and a reminder that leadership is not always something we chase, but something we are called into.
Joseph’s story offers rich lessons for our leaders today—and for all of us. Leadership often emerges from adversity; it’s in these refining seasons that character is formed. Joseph demonstrated diligence and integrity whether managing a household, overseeing prisoners, or governing a nation. His faithfulness in small things prepared him for influence in great things. Leadership isn’t about seeking the spotlight—it’s about stewarding every opportunity with excellence, knowing that our work honours God.
When Pharaoh faced troubling dreams, Joseph didn’t just interpret them—he offered a Spirit-led plan that saved countless lives. Godly leadership requires discernment and courage to act with clarity and purpose. Joseph never claimed credit for his gifts. When asked to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams, he replied, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favourable answer.” True leadership begins with humility—recognising that our abilities and influence are gifts from God.
Joseph had every reason to hold a grudge against his brothers, yet he chose forgiveness and restored his family. His leadership extended beyond Egypt, blessing nations during famine. Likewise, our influence—whether in school, church, sports, or family—should reflect God’s justice, mercy, and provision.
As we celebrate our new leaders, let’s remember that leadership is not merely a title—it’s a calling to submit to God’s authority, to serve faithfully, and to lead with humility and wisdom. My prayer is that each of us, like Joseph, will persevere through challenges, seek God’s guidance, and commit to serving with excellence and grace.

Junior School Choir Takes Tunes to St Luke's
Our Junior School Choir recently paid a visit to the Anglicare St Luke's Retirement Village in Dapto.
Students put on a special performance for the residents, singing a selection of songs, with students also participating in the weekly church service as they prayed and read the Bible for those in attendance.
The group also heard a message from the Chaplain Leigh Roberts, as well as testimonies from two residents. Students shared Christmas gifts they had prepared for those in the village as well, engaging in joyful conversation with the residents and their peers!
What a fantastic opportunity for our students to share their musical gifts as they build intergenerational friendships!

2026 Leaders Share Their 'Deep Hope'
2026 Leaders Share Their 'Deep Hope'
After they were inducted into their 2026 leadership roles at the beginning of Week 3, our 2026 Secondary Leaders attended a training day, spending time as a group as they prepared for next year.
Part of the focus for these students was to identify a 'Deep Hope' as student leaders for 2026 – both a goal for their leadership that reflects the mission of our school.
Our students concluded:
"Our Deep Hope is that everyone at Calderwood will experience the '3

We are thankful for these students and look forward to 2026 as they lead our students and school community.

Sofia attends the Empower Her STEM Summit
Sofia attends the Empower Her STEM Summit
During the school holidays, Year 7 student Sofia attended the Empower Her STEM Summit at the University of Wollongong. The two-day event included industry tours, hands-on science activities, and creative workshops designed to spark curiosity and confidence in STEM. Read below to hear more about her experience at the summit!
I attended the Empower Her STEM Summit on the 1st and 2nd of October at the University of Wollongong (UOW). While I was at the Summit, we did many interesting things across our two-day visit.
On our first day we went to BlueScope and after a fun tour bus ride, we saw how metal was made inside the factories. We heard from the current BlueScope cadets about how the machines work and how they get repaired. After that, we went to Buckeroo leatherwork shop, the home of Australian made toolbelts and leather gear, and made keychains!
On our second day we spent our time moving between different classrooms and doing activities. These included making jewellery out of recycled materials and exploring the hidden world of microscopic freshwater insects. At the end of the day, we received free hoodies and other amazing goodies!
I really enjoyed the 2 days meeting new friends and I loved seeing STEM in action!
