Earlier this term, our Year 7 cohort enjoyed a day trip to the Shoalhaven Zoo and Treetops Adventure!
Students had the chance to get up close and personal with plenty of interesting animals, with the day a great opportunity to get to know their peers better! Hear from some of our students about their experience on the day.
"The day we went to the Treetops Adventure course was amazing! We saw cool animals and even got to pet Koalas.
The highlights of the trip for me were being able to pet a beautiful chestnut brown horse, it even allowed me to pet under its neck. It was pretty funny when some other kids went up to it and it sneezed all over them.
What I found really fascinating was about five minutes before the storm when it started to buck and trot in a circle. I told people that I thought a storm was coming because my mum told me animals react when they know a big storm is coming.
The Treetops course was very fun, but at some points scary when rock climbing, because there were only mossy rocks that you could put your feet on.
Altogether, it was very enjoyable! The trip was very fun and I would advise everyone to go and have fun."
"The trip to the Shoalhaven Zoo was amazing. The treetops were really fun, and just being able to overcome my fears was good too.
Getting to go to the shops was nice, and even though it was hot we had a great time. Then it was time to do the treetops.
We all got harnesses and off we went! The climbing didn't seem so bad until we got to the back. It was terrifying! But I did it anyway!
We were close to the end, but came to the zipline – my worst enemy! I was super reluctant but did it anyway. It was great! We got to the end and finished.
I went again, but this time it started raining really badly. We went as fast as we could, praying as well. But it was too late – the storm and wind held us back. Soon enough we finished. We ran under shelter.
It was a great day!"
"It was an awesome but boiling hot day at Shoalhaven Zoo, exploring God's creatures that he has made.
It was exciting to see a koala that had been in a movie only for two seconds, but the owner said, 'It's more than I will ever get to be in one!'
We got to see monkeys, crocodiles, birds and lions. Jaxson got to hold a baby crocodile, Kyle got to hold a massive snake and Ameera got to hold two albino ringtail possums – one on her head eating a carrot, and one in her hands. They were very soft.
We had a great time on the ziplines, climbing up cliffs, and walking on almost tight ropes (there were ropes to hold onto, though).
There was a massive storm that came through when people were in the trees, but thankfully everyone was okay and nobody got hurt too badly!
Other than that, it was a great day!"
We’re a growing school for a new and growing community.
We run regular tours and open days for parents and students to have a taste of life at Calderwood. We’d love to welcome you to one of them soon!
