In a vibrant display of enthusiasm and camaraderie, the Year 12 Launch Day unfolded at Calderwood Christian School on Thursday, October 24, marking an exciting start to students' final year of high school. The event focused on equipping students with essential skills, fostering teamwork, and building a supportive community.
The day commenced with a thought-provoking presentation from our School Psychologist, Ms Rebecca McIntosh, who delved into the critical topic of anxiety versus stress. With engaging insights, she guided students on how to recognise the differences and offered effective strategies to manage these common challenges. Her practical tips resonated with many, providing students with tools to navigate the pressures of their final year.
Following this, Mrs Evelyn Meek took the stage to outline the expectations set forth by NESA (New South Wales Education Standards Authority). Her clear and informative presentation ensured that students understood the academic requirements ahead, helping to demystify the often-overwhelming landscape of Year 12 assessments.
Mrs Sue David and Mr Hamish McKendrick rounded out the morning with an interactive session on study skills and time management. Their engaging approach encouraged students to think critically about their study habits, offering valuable techniques to optimize their learning and balance their commitments.
As the educational sessions wrapped up, students enjoyed a delicious lunch featuring pulled pork rolls, fuelling them for the afternoon activities. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as they transitioned to the outdoor activities, which included stand-up paddleboarding – a perfect way to bond and build teamwork skills.
One of the day’s standout moments came when a group of determined students successfully formed a human pyramid on a large stand-up paddleboard, much to the delight of their peers and teachers. This memorable activity not only showcased their teamwork, but highlighted the fun and friendship that Year 12 promises.
Overall, the Year 12 Launch Day was a resounding success, leaving students feeling equipped, encouraged, and more connected than ever. As they embark on this pivotal year, the skills and friendships forged during this event will undoubtedly support them in their academic journeys ahead.
We look forward to seeing how these students will thrive in the year to come, armed with newfound knowledge and a strong sense of community.
