Secondary students complete the SES Shellharbour Youth Internship Program

Across Term 2, Year 10 student Ben and Year 9 students Eshika and Emily participated in the NSW SES Shellharbour Unit Youth Internship Program, which culminated in their graduation on Monday, September 30!

Ben, Eshika and Emily participated in the program outside of school hours across 10 weeks of term, learning plenty of valuable skills along the way! Mrs Evelyn Meek, who recommended the program to them, said:

"I was so pleased to see how much they have enjoyed being part of the program. Looking forward to see a friendly face at SES one day!"

Hear from Eshika below about her experience in the program!

Ben S, Emily G and I have been interning at SES for the past ten weeks during Term 3. We first found out about this program from Mrs Meek.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn new skills and more about what the SES does. Over the ten weeks, we have learnt many different skills and done things out of our comfort zones.

We learnt basic first aid skills, put out fires with a fire extinguisher, made things with power tools, took a trip on a boat and in the Unimog and many other things. All these things taught us to work with people we don't know and taught us to work together to solve the problems.

We also got to hear from other emergency services which was good to learn more about what they do and what I may like to do in the future. I also got to meet new people, including our mentors as well as the other interns.

Each week, SES was something I looked forward to, and I would recommend this program to others.
