Last month CCS hosted its inaugural Creative Arts Showcase. The school hall was transformed into a performance and gallery space showcasing works from the Middle and Senior School. An audience of around 150 families and friends came out to enjoy musical items, prints, paintings, sculptures, projects, websites, and creative writing.
The audience was entertained and moved by two original songs composed by Stage 5 students as part of their study of Contemporary Christian Music. The second half of the program showcased the Year 12 Music Major Works. There was a variety of vocal, piano, guitar, solo, and group performances, as well as the use of music technology including live looping and MIDI instruments.
Students from Stages 4 and 5, worked on their artworks during the evening, and it was delightful to see parents chatting with them about the process of making art. HSC Design and Technology projects were also on display including a rocking chair, go-kart, custom-painted surfboards, a music studio desk, and a 4WD drawer system.
Having taught at this school for many years brings with it the privilege of watching the students grow and mature as performers and artists and I am constantly amazed at how accomplished they become at refining the gifts God has given them. It really was an example of how such gifts can be used to serve and bless the school community.
We’re a growing school for a new and growing community.
We run regular tours and open days for parents and students to have a taste of life at Calderwood. We’d love to welcome you to one of them soon!
