Calderwood has emerged victorious at the CSSA Super 8 Cricket Gala Day, earning the title of Zone Champions after an undefeated day!
Thanks to the team's coach, Mr Chris Thorn, read below for a recap of how the day unfolded.
Calderwood took 9 students to the CSSA Zone Cricket Gala Day. Our first game was against Cedars and we started well by winning the toss and batting first. Aaron and Seth opened the batting and lasted the whole game without getting out, managing to score a respectable 63 runs.
Taymen opened the bowling and had Cedars in a mini collapse, taking two wickets for two runs off his over. Excellent bowling efforts from Riley, Cooper, Manav and Seth, saw us win the game by 9 runs.
Game two saw us take on Southern Highlands CS. Once again, Seth and Aaron got us off to a great start, both retiring after reaching 20 runs. Multiple boundaries were hit to the enjoyment of our whole team and our collection of parents and grandparents watching along. We scored an important 77 runs, which improved on our first game’s score.
Then we stepped up to another level in our bowling and fielding. Riley opened the bowling and only had 1 run scored off his opening over, incredible accuracy from our youngest team member against significantly older opponents. Then great overs from Cameron and Jack had Southern Highlands at five wickets for 5 runs. Really tight bowling from Cooper, Manav and Seth ensured that we won by 51 runs.
Game three was the final against Shire CS. We again batted first and Seth and Aaron set us up for another good innings. We scored a respectable 65.
Lots of dot balls and a couple of good run outs ensured we kept the run chase hard work for Shire CS. With two overs to go, they needed 21 runs to win, before Cameron stepped up to bowl the penultimate over, bowled 5 dot balls and took a wicket! Seth came on to bowl the last over and took another wicket, restricting them to 58. We win by 7 runs!
A huge thank you to our cheer squad of parents and grandparents that showed up to support the team. Special thanks to Kyle Ferguson and Mr McPhail for assisting with umpiring. Well done boys on a successful Gala Day. We batted, bowled and fielded superbly, but more importantly, played with excellent sportsmanship and teamwork!
We’re a growing school for a new and growing community.
We run regular tours and open days for parents and students to have a taste of life at Calderwood. We’d love to welcome you to one of them soon!
